Liane Preshaw

Liane graduated from Hartpury College in 2003 with a BSc (hons) in Equine Science. Upon completion of her degree she entered the field of equine insurance, working for PetPlan and later Amlin Plus, a specialist bloodstock insurance company. In 2007 she began working for The Horse Trust and is now their Director of Knowledge and Skills. Liane is responsible for: identifying new best practice in equine care, management and training, as it develops from research and expert opinion; providing an on-going and evidence-based programme of CPD training to The Trust’s equine care team; and monitoring and evaluating human behaviour change and equine welfare. She also delivers external training on a range of subjects to charity personnel, local authorities, vets and nurses. During her time at The Horse Trust Liane has completed a part-time MSc in Equine Science, and is about to complete an MPhil at the Royal Veterinary College titled ‘An investigation into the development and potential application of a Welfare Assessment Protocol to assess horse welfare using animal-based measures’. Liane’s scientific interests include applied ethology, clinical animal behaviour, and equine welfare assessment.
